Keeping communal areas safe: new removal process for items left in corridors

From Monday 28 July, East Village Management Ltd (EVML) will begin issuing Tort notices for any personal items left in communal areas such as corridors and shared hallways.

This is part of our commitment to building safety. Keeping these areas clear is a vital part of our fire safety plan, ensuring all residents can evacuate quickly and safely in the event of an emergency.

What’s changing?

To help maintain clear and safe communal spaces, EVML will now follow a formal process to remove and manage items found in shared areas:

The process:

  1. Spotting an item: If our Estate Team finds an item left outside your door or apartment, they’ll complete a Tort notice and place a copy through your letterbox.
  2. Tagging the item: A duplicate Tort notice will be securely attached to the item or to the ziplock bag it’s placed in but not taped directly to the item itself to avoid damage.
  3. Collecting your belongings:
    • To reclaim your item, bring the Tort notice and photo ID showing your East Village address to Team East Village reception at 80 Celebration Avenue.
    • Our team will then help you retrieve your belongings.
  4. Unclaimed items: If items are not collected within 14 days, they will be disposed of.

What should you do?

Please do not leave any items outside your front door or in shared areas. This includes:

  • Shoes and door mats
  • Bags or personal belongings
  • Small furniture
  • Decorations
  • Ring doorbells
  • Other household items

Essential mobility items, such as pushchairs, will be handled with care. If you need to collect an item urgently outside office hours, please contact our Security Team on 020 8221 7013.

We appreciate your support in keeping East Village safe, accessible and welcoming for everyone.

Let’s keep our corridors clear and our community safer, together.
